2026 Summer Intern, Grid Planning

As a Grid Planning Intern, you will be supporting the work of distribution and transmission power grid planning with the goal of providing excellent quality work for our clients.

This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2026. Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location, or hybrid from our Reston, VA office. At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship.Pay is expected to be $23 per hour.

As a Grid Planning Intern, you will:

      • Assist distribution and transmission engineers with model building and performing studies in software like PSSE, PSCAD, CYME, ETAP, and others
      • Assist in design and development of renewable energy and synchronous generation sites and application to entities like ERCOT, PJM, MISO, and SPP
      • Assist in developing short-term and long-term load forecasts
      • Conduct research on emerging technologies such as hyperscalers or AI-training data centers
      • Analyze data on capacities, system loads, and reliability metrics to support planning studies
      • Draft sections of planning reports, including findings, recommendations, and technical analyses

Interns may or should have:

      • The ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel
      • Strong organizational and time management skills
      • Strong capability to learn new technical concepts through independent research

Basic Qualifications:

  • By start date, a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours is required preferably in engineering related fields

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering student with a focus on power systems
  • Advanced user of Microsoft products, specifically Word and Excel
  • Some coding experience using programs like Python or Matlab
