5 Year Independent Research Fellowship in Epithelial Cancer Biology

Job title:

5 Year Independent Research Fellowship in Epithelial Cancer Biology

Company

University of York

Job description

We are aiming to recruit a new group leader in human epithelial cancer, whose research expertise and interests can build upon existing strengths across the Department and University. We are looking for a scientist, potentially at an early stage of their independent career, with a strong, competitive track record and exciting ideas to develop an independent research programme that will complement and expand existing research strengths in York. The post holder will be based in the Jack Birch Unit (JBU) within the Department of Biology and be a member of the York Biomedical Research Institute (YBRI). We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates whose work will complement and add synergy to ongoing research within the JBU and YBRI. Applications from researchers keen to explore mechanisms of immune evasion and/or cancer immunotherapy, tumour microenvironment or cell signalling/proteomics in human epithelial cancer systems are especially encouraged. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and talented research fellow to join the JBU and develop their own research programme. The successful candidate will benefit from access to the core Biosciences Technology Facility, a research challenge-driven and inclusive environment, and a wide range of resources, including the unique human urothelial cell/tissue cell and transcriptomic resource established in the JBU. Overall, we anticipate that the fellow will collaborate with biologists, immunologists, and informaticians in the JBU and YBRI to launch their own ambitious and competitive research programme. The first 3 years of the post will be funded as a research post by York Against Cancer, who prefer not to fund animal research, with the Department/University funding up to a further 2 years. The fellow will be encouraged to apply for further external independent fellowship funding and/or a Lectureship position in the Department. You will have a strong first degree and PhD in immunology or related discipline with commensurate expertise and experience in human cancer cell and/or molecular immunology and an excellent publication record. You will be enthusiastic and have the collaborative skills and knowledge to work with others in multidisciplinary teams. The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves. We encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University. We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYorkIf you have further enquiries, please contact Professor Jenny Southgate atThe University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves. We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University. We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff.
