Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN), John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DUWe are looking for an experienced Academic Administration Manager to join the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences’ Academic Administration Team. The team provides support to over 180 DPhil students and to the delivery of parts of the world class Medical School’s programme, particularly the Year 5 Brain and Behaviour module.The Academic Administration Manager is a team leader role thus is key to the overall management of NDCN’s administrative and academic operations, contributing to the development of strategy, policies and procedures, and is instrumental in maintaining a good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including the Medical Sciences Division. Reporting to the Head of Administration and Finance, working closely with the Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Clinical Neurosciences Undergraduate Education and other Course Directors and their administrative teams across the Clinical School, lecturers, students, senior leaders in NDCN and colleagues from other professional support teams.You will be responsible for the team of Academic Administration Officers who focus on undergraduate and graduate activities. Leading the team, you will be an experienced manager, knowledgeable in your field, professional, and service-focused with the ability to support the development of team members. Faced with varying and competing demands you will be organised, flexible, with the ability to communicate effectively, delegate and re-prioritise.You will ensure teaching provision and support for academic-related matters maintains its high quality while facilitating strategic changes to existing provision or the development of new education-related activities or opportunities. Having regular contact with prospective and current students and staff means that you will have to provide information, advice and guidance, including on pastoral matters; consequently, you will have good interpersonal skills, exercising tact and discretion when dealing with confidential matters.Essential Criteria

  • Educated to a degree standard or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Proven significant experience in academic administration in a higher education environment.
  • Staff management experience and the ability to motivate others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to organise work time efficiently and handle competing priorities to deliver results to a required high standard and to deadlines.
  • Strong IT skills with working knowledge of MS office including Word and Excel.
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to resolve sensitive issues and exercise tact and discretion.
  • Excellent numerical skills with the ability to manage financial matters and manipulate and present data using spreadsheets.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of policies and frameworks governing post graduate taught courses in the University of Oxford.
  • Understanding of medical education.
