Job description
We are looking to appoint an Academic and Study Skills Tutor on a full-time, permanent basis. Academic and Study Skills provision at Manchester Metropolitan University is provided by a dynamic team of 21 Learning Development specialists, supported by a full-time administrator.Our tutors undertake diverse teaching and learning activities to champion academic success and an enhanced learning experience for all students. Ultimately, they contribute to the innovative development and delivery of Learning Development provision that is designed to empower students to excel at Manchester Metropolitan University.What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of our provision.You will:
- Work in partnership with students at all levels (from foundation year through to doctoral study) and across all degree programmes.
- Collaborate with faculty-based colleagues. The successful candidate will be a link tutor for the Faculty of Business and Law.
- Plan and teach bespoke academic literacy and study skills sessions that are embedded into credit-bearing curriculums.
- Teach and develop our comprehensive extra-curricular offer open to all students, including workshops, short courses, one-to-one tutorials, and online self-study materials.
- Develop digital learning materials to support the continual enhancement of the service.
- Be comfortable in teaching in on-campus and online environments, ranging from one-to-one tutorials through to large group settings.
- Create, lead, and evaluate projects that are designed to enhance the student experience.
You should apply if you are:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Have a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) or equivalent professional experience (e.g., FHEA).
- Demonstrate sustained evidence of teaching in a relevant setting.
- Passionate about enhancing students’ learning experiences in a diverse higher education environment.
- Collaborative in your approach, demonstrating evidence of working in partnership with others to generate ideas and Solve problems.
- Proactive in responding to demands of a fluctuating workload by prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and delivering outcomes that create the most impact.
What is the working pattern?
Our working pattern is designed to support the student experience and service demands.
- We currently operate on a 1 day remote in term time and 3 days remote outside of term time.
- Days are determined on a teamwide rota.
- Core service hours are 9am to 5pm. Some flexibility in terms of days and working hours may be required to meet service demands.
