Within the broader University community, the Vice-Principal Academic & Dean represents the policies and points of view of U of T Scarborough. Within U of T Scarborough, the Vice-Principal & Dean promotes the teaching, research, and scholarship of the faculty, the career development of the administrative staff, and the overall well-being of students.Under the general direction of the Manager, Academic HR & Faculty Affairs, the Academic HR and Faculty Development Advisor plays a dual role in supporting the strategic development and implementation of faculty development programming and the delivery of academic human resources services at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). The incumbent contributes to the advancement of a supportive and inclusive academic environment by planning and coordinating initiatives that promote faculty engagement, leadership, and career progression across all career stages. This includes leading the logistical execution of events and programs, developing communication strategies, evaluating outcomes, and coordinating internal funding competitions. In parallel, the Advisor serves as a key resource on Academic HR processes, providing a full range of expert advice and operational support to academic units on policies and procedures related to faculty appointments, searches, academic reviews, salary administration, and leaves. The incumbent also provides technical guidance on the interpretation and application of collective agreements, including those governing CUPE 3902 Units 1, 3, and 5, which cover teaching assistants, sessional lecturers, and postdoctoral fellows. The Advisor works closely with faculty leadership, departmental administrators, Labour Relations, and central university offices to ensure Academic HR matters are handled with consistency, accuracy, and compliance.The Advisor will also take on new tasks or projects, assume responsibility for ongoing initiatives, and undertake research on a wide variety of issues related to academic human resources at UTSC. The Advisor is responsible for the planning and implementation of projects aimed at improving the campus’s Academic HR processes. The responsibilities of the Advisor will continue to evolve, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach to changing priorities while working collaboratively in a dynamic environment.The Advisor is expected to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and strong analytical skills in handling inquiries independently or referring them appropriately.
