​Academic Liaison LibrarianPermanentLondon£27,929 – £31,411 pa + £3,654 LWAOur client, a HE is looking to recruit a permanent Academic Liaison Librarian based in London. The client has multiple intakes per annum, delivers continuous learning, teaching and recruitment cycles and operates in an intensely competitive inner-city and multicultural HE environment. The Institute currently has approx. 4,000 non-residential students on Certificates of Higher Education, Honours degrees, Masters and Doctoral programmes, some of which are also taught at weekends.Reporting to the Academic and Digital Skills Manager, the post holder will provide specialist library support for the learning and teaching activities of a specified University curriculum area. This post would also have significant reporting lines to the Dean of the London campus for all day-to-day operational responsibilities. The post will be required to work weekends on a rota basis (approximately 1 in 3, during term time) to provide a 7-day week cover for the students on the London campus via a blend of remote and on-site working, including home working where appropriate (weekend work is on-site).As part of the Academic Liaison Librarian Team within the Library and Learning Resources, you will focus on the development of specialist, curriculum focused academic and information skills.This will include support for design, planning, validation, delivery and review of courses and programmes. You will contribute to the provision of a blended and holistic curriculum of digital and information literacy and other academic skills, via the Academic and InfoSkills programme You will take into account the differing needs of students as they progress in their academic careers, and aim to develop the academic success, lifelong transferable skills and employability of our student body.You will also act as lead within the Academic Services Team for a functional area of responsibility, currently including one or more of the following specified areas:

  • Collaborative Partner Support
  • Diversity/Inclusivity Support
  • Referencing Support (including Referencing Software Tools)
  • Copyright Support

You will require excellent interpersonal and team working skills, and the ability to liaise with academic colleagues and work collaboratively across the institution. A commitment to and knowledge of contemporary Digital and Information Literacy developments are essential, as is the ability to work strategically to deliver services aligned with the University’s objectives and values.· Plan, deliver and evaluate teaching activities for students and staff in academic and information skills, taking into account good current practice in pedagogical theory and the differing needs of students and researchers as they progress in their academic careers.· Work strategically with academic staff in a given area on curriculum planning and delivery with reference to the LLR Strategy and current action plans and advocate for and create opportunities for the appropriate embedding of the academic and information skills curriculum.· Make creative use of digital platforms and teaching strategies to provide an engaging digital learning environment and develop innovative methods for reaching students.· Work closely with the Digital Skills team to ensure a joined up and holistic approach to skills delivery across Library teams.· Act as a point of expertise within the Institution for the development of academic and information skills, contributing to the delivery of library enquiry services, including physical and virtual enquiry services, and responding to specialist subject-based enquiries· Gain a thorough understanding of the needs of students and staff within a given academic area(s) in order to advise on collections and learning resources, to support the Head of Academic Services and Head of Collections in ensuring a joined up and holistic approach to resource provision and collection development· Provide support for the design and provision of high quality, current, diverse and representative online reading and resource lists, taking into account good current practice in pedagogical theory· Manage own time and workloads efficiently and consistently meet deadlines, demonstrating an ability to respond effectively to the unexpected. Demonstrate clear thinking and utilise available information to make decisions in own work area, taking account of the associated risks and impact· Treat all employees, colleagues, customers and visitors fairly and equitably. Acknowledge the opinions and contributions of others, recognising the benefits of difference and diversity.Appreciate the ethical issues and implications of own actions· Represent the Library and Learning Resources on relevant committees internally and externally, project a positive, professional image and demonstrate the ability to understand the views of others in order to influence and negotiate effectively to achieve agreed outcomes, manage expectations and take a positive, but pragmatic approach when representing the LLR· In collaboration with the Special Collection and Archives team, support special collections and archives material within the academic and information skills curriculum.· Effectively engage with professional services and other key stakeholders to support partnership and collaborative working· To undertake continuous professional development both internally and externally to the Library and University. To maintain awareness of developments in the wider HE and Library environments. To develop new skills and exploit new tools in order to work imaginatively to improve library services.· To actively seek feedback and contribute to the effective monitoring of service quality and benchmarking of services.
