Global Pathogen Analysis Service Ltd (GPAS Ltd) aims to revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases by developing Whole Genome Sequencing- and metagenomic-based pathogen clinical analysis tools. We ultimately aim to develop an ‘always-on global pathogen metagenomics system with the ability to identify Pathogen X and provide early warning of disease epidemics.’Built by a long-established world-leading pathogen genomics team from the University of Oxford, supported by the cloud computing scale and security of Oracle Inc, and generously funded by Larry Ellison, GPAS is a global, turn-key solution that systematises how data from genomic sequencing is processed.Progressing from our successful Sars-CoV-2 and Mycobacterium tuberculosis toolsets, GPAS Ltd is scaling at pace to develop and deliver speciation, AMR prediction and relatedness solutions to laboratories, hospitals and public health organisations around the globe.About the RoleJoining GPAS Ltd as an Academic Partnerships Manager presents a unique and exciting opportunity to work and collaborate with multiple academic institutes locally and internationally to grow our academic partnerships portfolio. Primarily, a goal of the business would be to acquire pathogen genomic and associated meta-data from partner institutes. This includes delivering high-quality engagement to clients, developing strategic links and proactively identifying opportunities to build sustainable partnerships.We are on the lookout for exceptional talent and someone who embodies our passion, has the capability and sees the vast potential for global application of our products. As an essential member of our dynamic, agile team, you will display excellence, interpersonal skills, and a collaborative spirit, reporting to the CSO.You’ll engage closely with our partners at the University of Oxford, demonstrating a mission-driven attitude and adaptability to fulfil our collective objectives. Your contributions will not only be valued but encouraged, as we seek your input on enhancing our partnership strategy and reach.Responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying opportunities and leading on proposals for new academic partnerships, which may sometimes also include commercial arms or entities.
  • Liaise with partner institutions to ensure the successful development and maintenance of the partnership.
  • Overseeing the management and regular monitoring of the partnership once established.
  • Overseeing the orderly termination of/withdrawal from the partnership, if applicable.
  • Lead and collaborate on the development of contracts and business plans/market analysis in relation to setting up academic partnership arrangements.
  • Contribute to a strategic and operational plan detailing priorities, objectives and proposed activities for academic partnership activities including identifying new markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including academics, clinicians, business personal to better understand the differing value of pathogen data acquisition to inform academic collaborations.
  • Liaise with academic institutes for product feedback and advice.
  • Be innovative and take the initiative to introduce new ideas and approaches.
  • Represent GPAS externally at events and meetings relevant to academic or commercial partnerships and promote a positive and consistent reputation for GPAS both in the UK and abroad.

RequirementsWe are looking for someone who is highly motivated, proactive, and passionate about our mission. An organised self-starter with an eye for detail and an interest in how bioinformatic applications can be used to improve health.Ideally, we’d love you to have experience of the following:

  • A PhD or Master’s qualification ideally in the life sciences and business/project management qualifications or experience.
  • Understanding of genomics/bioinformatics/infectious disease.
  • Experience in sales or business development.
  • Relationship management, account management and project management.
  • Experience and a track record of delivering success through academic collaborative partnerships.
  • Proven leadership and management skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-growth, fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Highly organised with an ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage allocated budgets effectively.
  • Experience in setting up overseas collaborative arrangements.
