Academic Position in Respirology

The Department of Medicine, in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a Contingent Term appointment in respirology, with a particular research focus in the field of interstitial lung disease (ILD), at the Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be a member of the Snyder Institute.

Qualifications include an MD, certification in Internal Medicine, eligibility for regular licensure in the Province of Alberta, and sub-specialty training in Respirology. An advanced research degree, Master’s or PhD, in the areas of interstitial lung disease and/or environmental lung disease is also required.

The University of Calgary is developing an international reputation as an ILD Centre of Excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to support the expansion of the ILD research program at the university, including the incorporation of clinical and translational research that will position the university to be leaders in innovative treatments. They will be expected to mentor and sponsor newly hired junior faculty members and students within this growing area of research in Calgary. The position will have 60% protected time for research, as well as 5% protected time for teaching. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the provision of clinical services, both in ILD and general respirology, through their appointment to the Division of Respiratory Medicine.

Applicants must present evidence of early success as a clinician researcher in the area of ILD and / or environmental lung disease, as demonstrated through early academic productivity in terms of presentations, publications and project funding. They should also have evidence of leadership in clinical and/or translational research in the field. Evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision would be an asset. Evidence of collaborations with other researchers and academic engagement in professional and other communities will be assessed.
