We are currently looking for an Academic Skills Tutor to join our Library Services team, to provide Academic skills support to students throughout their studies.
Based within our Library Service, Academic Skills Tutors (ASTs) are specialists who support students on all programmes and across all levels in the development of good academic skills.
ASTs are responsible for delivering a high-quality student experience and monitoring the engagement and performance of students in their work with the Academic Skills Team. ASTs work alongside the Deputy Head of Library Services (Learning and Teaching) in the innovative development of academic skills provision for all students.
The successful candidate will have experience of and be able to support students in the understanding and application of a broad range of academic skills including referencing, academic writing, academic integrity (and avoiding academic malpractice), using the Library, note-taking, developing “good study habits” (such as active listening, contributing to discussions, reflection, time management, appropriate “netiquette”), preparing for examinations, planning assessments and digital literacy.
They will work as part of a team of Academic Skill’s Tutors who are responsible for supporting students right across the University. This includes delivering a range of support including a curriculum of study to support our Cert HE Programme, embedded skills teaching across programmes, delivering optional workshops and providing one to one support. You will be an academic and must have proven experience of supporting students to develop good academic skills, along with experience of supporting students across a variety of different programmes. You will need excellent digital literacy skills and a clear passion to engender these in our students, as well as possessing understanding, empathy and a kind nature with the ability to support our diverse population of students.
You should be self-motivated, positive, ambitious and organised with a genuine enthusiasm and commitment to delivery of blended and online learning. You will contribute towards the practice of continuous improvement through continuous professional development and sharing of best practice.
