Job Title: Academic Support for Secondary
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire
Salary: 12.82 – £12.83 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate start
Contract Type: Full-time, PermanentAre you a passionate individual dedicated to supporting the academic success of secondary school students?GSL Education are inviting applications for committed and proactive Academic Support to work within secondary schools in Portsmouth, Hampshire. This role is ideal for individuals who are eager to assist students in achieving their full potential, providing both academic and pastoral support in a dynamic learning environment.About the Role:As an Academic Support, you will work closely with students, teachers and support staff to enhance students’ educational experiences and academic progress. You will provide tailored one-to-one and small-group interventions, ensuring that students develop confidence in their abilities and overcome any barriers to learning.Responsibilities of the Academic Support for Secondary:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group academic support to students in need of additional guidance.
  • Assist in differentiating lesson materials to ensure accessibility for all students.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to implement targeted learning strategies.
  • Support students in developing study skills, organisation and independent learning techniques.
  • Encourage student engagement, motivation and confidence in their academic abilities.
  • Offer pastoral care, helping students manage stress, academic pressures and personal challenges.
  • Monitor and report student progress to teaching staff, parents and school leadership teams.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, promoting respect and enthusiasm for learning.
  • Actively contribute to student well-being and safeguarding procedures.

Requirements of the Academic Support for Secondary: To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A strong passion for education and a desire to support young people in their academic journey.
  • Experience in academic mentoring, tutoring, teaching assistance, or youth support is desirable.
  • A relevant degree or strong subject knowledge in core secondary school subjects.
  • The ability to build rapport with students and motivate them to succeed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with students, teachers and parents.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to different learning needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
