As an Accident Benefits Litigation Clerk you will be responsible for supporting one lawyer in the handling of accident benefit matters. Familiarity with tort litigation matters is also required. This is a hybrid position where you will be responsible for various clerking tasks as well as the day-to-day file management.Come join our team!What you’ll do:Preparation and drafting of correspondence and legal documents (motion records, affidavit of documents, affidavits, pre-trial/mediation memos, cost outlines, bill of costs, subpoenas, summons to witness, consent and dismissal orders, responses by insurer to an application for arbitration, accident benefits brief, AABS case conference summaries); ensuring all appropriate documents and forms are filed with the court/tribunal in accordance with the Rules of the License Appeal Tribunal, Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Rules of Civil ProcedureCompilation of books of authorities/factumsPreparing and following up with requests for productions and undertakingsSummarizing discovery notes, transcripts, economic loss and medical reportsArranging investigations/surveillance, including preparing various instruction letters to investigatorsArranging independent medical examinations, including drafting and preparing the medical briefsDicta-typing; filing; scheduling, keeping lawyer’s calendar updated; and updating internal databaseRequisitioning chequesMaintaining electronic file organizationBooking travel; including flights, cars and hotels as neededEnsure integrity of information in matterMANAGER applicationsLiaise between counsel, external parties, and claims operationsWhat you’ll bring:Minimum of 5+ years of legal assistant and law clerk experience in an insurance defence or personal injury litigation environmentPost-secondary accreditation for legal assistant or law clerk, or equivalent experience preferredExcellent computer skills including experience with MS Word, ACL, Adobe, Kofax and OutlookKnowledge of the Rules of the License Appeal Tribunal, Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Rules of Civil ProcedureAbility to work in a paperless environmentCustomer-service oriented with superb communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsAttention to detail with a desire to take initiativeAble to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a teamMature work ethic and good sense of humorWhat you’ll get:Compelling rewards package including base salary, eligibility for annual bonus, paid vacation, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness account, and 3 paid volunteer days per year.Our vacation package starts at 4 weeks !Outstanding Career DevelopmentPaid professional development education (Controlled Insurance Program designation)Corporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental healthAviva Canada has an accommodation process in place to provide accommodations for employees with disabilities.
