It fuels our innovation and connects us closer to the community we serve.Job DescriptionReporting to the Director of Finance and Human Resources, the Accounting Clerk is an integral member of the Finance Team. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the taxpayers of Merritt with cashier and clerical duties and performing the collection of property tax, utility tax, business licensing, and dog licensing. The incumbent must possess problem solving and relationship building skills to be an effective communicator. This work involves interaction with the public in a high transaction environment. To maintain positive public relations, interpersonal and customer service skills will be important.As a member of the Finance team, you will work to ensure the highest level of quality and accuracy. You will support the monthly revenue and expense reporting and maintain accurate and complete accounting files and records. This is a multi-faceted role, interacting with internal and external stakeholders as you perform reception duties such as answering telephones, responding to inquiries, and clerical functions including ordering office supplies and collecting and processing mail.This position requires 35 working hours per week Mondays to Fridays.Qualifications
Successful candidates require a valid BC (Class 5) driver’s license. For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.Additional InformationThis is a position is within the CUPE local bargaining unit with a wage of $31.45 per hour (2024 rate).
