Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is located in the Office of the Assistant-General for Human Resources (OASG OHR) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), in New York. The intern will report to the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General or the Human Resources Officer.

Liaise with different offices regarding individual communications requests and provide assistance with the review and publication of OHR communication material (incl. articles, broadcasts); Assist with proofreading and editing of content for print, web and multimedia, events and publications; Assist with web content updates; Make proposals and suggestions to improve on web graphic and design (create graphics, logos, digital material as necessary); Evaluate adequacy of existing records management and reference tools, and participate in record keeping improvement projects and make recommendations; Assist in drafting notes, speech-writing, messaging, preparation of reports and background documents; Provide statistics and run reports related to the work of the office as requested; Assist in preparing presentation materials including graphs, charts, excel tables and PowerPoint slides; Assist with the review of staff recommended for placement in view of the requirements to laterally reassign staff subject to mission downsizing; Assist with other HR strategy implementation; Perform other related duties, as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Educational background or exposure to human resources, public administration or related issues is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel and MS Teams.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
