This position is located in the Office of the Special Adviser and Head of the Investigative Team for the United Nations Investigative Team to promote accountability for crimes committed by Da’esh / Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, and will be based in Baghdad, Iraq. UNITAD was established by the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017), according to which it is mandated to support domestic efforts to hold ISIL (Da’esh) accountable by collecting, preserving and storing evidence in Iraq of acts that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the terrorist group ISIL (Da’esh) in Iraq.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Administrative Assistant FS-4 will carry out the following duties: General Administration • Provide executive administrative support to the Special Adviser and Head of the Investigative Team as well as members within the Office of the Special Adviser. • Draft routine correspondence to respond to enquiries in respect to relevant counterparts of the Investigative Team; transmit substantive correspondence on behalf of the Special Adviser/Office of the Special Adviser; schedule meetings and appointments for the Special Adviser; arrange missions in support of the Special Adviser; maintain files of administrative instructions and other rules and regulations; provide guidance and training to other administrative assistants of the Investigative Team. • Coordinate extensively with units of the Investigative Team in support of the Special Adviser and the Office of the Special Adviser. • Perform other related administrative duties in support of the office, as required e.g., operational travel plan for unit/section; attendance and leave recording; physical space allocation plans and the identification of office technology needs and maintenance of equipment, software and systems, assist with the organization and coordination of seminars, conferences and translations. Human Resources Management • Initiate, review, process and follow-up on actions related to the administration of the unit’s human resource activities, e.g., recruitment of staff and consultants, placement, promotion, relocation, performance appraisal, job classification review, separation of staff members, training, etc., ensuring consistency in the application of UN rules and procedures. • Respond to enquiries and provide information and advice to staff regarding their entitlements, administrative procedures, processes and practices, conditions of service, duties and responsibilities, and entitlements under the Staff Rules and Regulations. • Oversee the maintenance of the mission vacancy announcement files and keep track of status of all current vacancy announcements; ensure that recommendations regarding changes in contractual status of staff comply with established procedure and policy; convene rebuttal and recourse panels; prepare documents for promotion, special post allowance, review of entry level and within grade allowance panels. • Maintain and monitor the mission staffing table and prepare relevant statistical data and charts as required.

Education
High school or equivalent diploma is required. Secondary school, technical school, university and other courses and training programmes relating to the work, is desirable.

Work Experience
At least six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of finance, accounting, human resources, audit, administrative services or other related field is required. Experience providing support to a high level official and working within a Front Office of a peacekeeping operation or special political mission is required. Experience providing administrative support to an office working on political or legal affairs, is required. Experience working in an office dealing with judicial affairs is desirable. Experience providing administrative support and engagement with host country national counterparts on sensitive political and legal matters, is required. Experience in handling confidential documentation is required. Work experience in the Middle East is desirable. Experience in arranging travel and accommodation is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is required.
