The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. 

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

  • have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
  • are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
  • are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
  • are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
  • are between 20 and 36 years of age.

Background Information:

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advise to governments and migrants.

Responsibilities:

Supervision:

Working under the overall supervision of National Resource Management Officer, the intern will assist with the operational activities of the Resources Management Unit. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Collect, stamp, register and distribute daily the incoming and outgoing mail, parcels, pouches and other communications, including from and to the post office, government agencies and other institutions; direct and forward those to relevant units/persons via ensuring proper tracking system. 
  • Ensure proper filing and registry of both incoming and outgoing letters and maintain office files and reference systems according to standard procedures. 
  • Assist procurement specialist in contacting local vendors.
  • Assist in preparing and submission of VAT return.
  • Support the Resources Management Unit in its filing, administrative and financial tasks and support in preparing cash flow forecast and submitting MFR requests.
  • Support monthly RMU meetings by collecting agenda points, taking notes and disseminate meeting minutes.
  • Undertake all other tasks as may be assigned.

Qualifications Education:

  • Must, at the time of application: a) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or c) have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation;

Experience:

  • experience with Microsoft Office Suite is an advantage;
  • shall have excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • shall have ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
  • shall have solid organizational skills and attention to detail.

Languages:

  •  Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; 
  •  Knowledge of Hungarian language is a distinct advantage.
