We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join our Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate (EYSD) as the Adviser and Head of the Economic Policy and Small States Section (EPSS).The EYSD Directorate is responsible for the Secretariat’s programmes on global, regional, and national economic, environmental, and sustainable development issues, both contemporary and emerging.The EPSS Section focuses on strategies to enhance the international economic, financial and development architecture to facilitate growth by developing policy recommendations which address the needs and vulnerabilities of member countries. This is done through research and analysis, development of policy frameworks, facilitation of discussion and debate, advocacy and consensus building to focus international attention on relevant issues and solutions.The successful candidate will undertake technical research and policy development focused on latest international economic and financial architecture to support growth and resilience in our member countries.The post-holder will be responsible for (but are not limited to):

  • Leading research and analysis on global macroeconomic aspects and sustainable development initiatives;
  • Developing policy frameworks and capacity-building programs for member countries, with a focus on resilience building in Small States;
  • Organising high-level forums, such as the annual Commonwealth Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meetings and the biennial Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting on Small States.
  • Engaging in dialogue and consensus-building within the Commonwealth on economic and financial policies;
  • Leading and managing the EPSS Section (including budget and financial management) and providing technical advice to senior management and government officials.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a post-graduate degree in Economics or a relevant field. Candidates must also have at least ten years of experience in economic analysis and policy formulation, gained at both a national and international level. Proven expertise in research, policy formulation, and strategic partnerships in the context of sustainable development is also required. Candidates with a PhD in Economics or a relevant field and those who have knowledge or experience gained from working with Commonwealth member countries will have an added advantage.
