The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.Working for the NRC Aerospace Research Centre (NRC-AERO), the incumbent will perform and ensure proper completion of applicable maintenance activities related to aircraft. This includes the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of aircraft avionics and electrical systems. He/she will troubleshoot and rectify applicable aircraft system defects using standard or specialized test equipment as well as ensure aircraft documentation is complete and accurate.The incumbent will also carry out duties as per the appropriate maintenance control manual and ensure conformity to Transport Canada regulatory standards. As required, the incumbent will assist the Aircraft Crew Chief in preparing aircraft for research flight operations, adhere to the Safety Management System Policy, provide training/guidance and oversight of the work of apprentices and accompany FRL aircraft on field deployments as required by operational commitments.This position will appeal to a person who is well organized, who is detail-oriented and who enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent service. If you’re that person, then this may be the perfect role for you!Screening CriteriaApplicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:EducationGraduation from a program of study at an accredited college meeting Transport Canada requirements for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer training in the avionics specialty.Must hold an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) “E or M” licence issued by Transport Canada.ICAO Type 2 Licence may also be accepted, however a Transport Canada AME “E or M” Licence must be obtained within 12 months.For information on certificates and diplomas issued abroad, please seeExperience

  • Significant experience as a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) specializing in avionics on a variety of aircraft types.

Assets:

  • Experience in a military or civil flight test environment;
  • Experience in an organization that performs major modifications or repairs to civil or military aircraft;
  • Rotary wing maintenance experience including type specific training on Bell Medium helicopters;
  • Experience on aircraft similar to those operated by NRC. (Note: current fleet includes Convair 580, Dassault Falcon 20, Twin Otter, Canadair CT-133 (T-33), Harvard Mk IV, Bell 205, Bell 206, Bell 412.); and
  • Experience with avionics installation and/or maintenance.

Condition of Employment

  • Secret (II); and
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) from the Ottawa Airport Pass Control Office.

  • Solid knowledge of how to perform and ensure proper completion of scheduled and unscheduled inspections, including inspections after abnormal occurrences;
  • Solid knowledge or how to research, evaluate and complete airworthiness directive and service bulletins requirements;
  • Solid knowledge of troubleshooting and rectification of defects of applicable aircraft systems;
  • Solid knowledge regarding aircraft logbook entries and technical documentation;
  • Solid knowledge of how to carry out applicable installations in accordance with drawings;
  • Solid knowledge of weight and balance control procedures; and
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices associated with the implementation of a Safety Management System as defined by Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA).
