Analyst for the Ukraine Programme

Position Overview

We are seeking a part-time volunteer analyst for the Ukraine Programme. The role involves desk-based research, open-source investigation, and analyses of Russian media content and political statements to prepare various legal submissions.

Deadline: 8 November 2024 (Midnight CET)

Start date: ASAP

Duration: min. 3 months

Commitment: 10 hours/week, flexible work hours

Location: home office (remote)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Scanning Russian media outlets with the aim of identifying specific statements
  • Open-source investigation tracking various information relevant to case-building efforts
  • Analytical work involving the assessment of various statements in light of international law and human rights law
  • Assistance with drafting various submissions for accountability mechanisms on the national and international level

Main Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Passion and dedication to the mission and values of the organisation, result-driven commitment, ability to work in an international team and handle uncertain situations with flexibility
  • A good understanding of the Russian media and politics
  • A good understanding of international humanitarian and international criminal law (Master, doctoral candidate, or holder of a PhD degree. Suitably qualified Bachelors will be considered)
  • Experience with writing legal submissions or academic writing is an advantage
  • Very good proficiency in English (C1 minimum)
  • Knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian would be a strong advantage
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to convey complex information and messages in a simple way and easily understood by target audiences
  • Ability to meet reasonable deadlines and ability to work in a team

Desirable:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit with out-of-the-box thinking to propose new initiatives
  • Willingness to continuously learn and develop new skills
  • Previous experience with non-profit organisations and project management
