Open ended, 35 hours per weekBioresearch & Veterinary Services is seeking an Animal Facility Manager to manage a BVS animal facility at the University of Edinburgh.The Opportunity:To manage a BVS animal facility at the University of Edinburgh. To provide a professional, high welfare and legislatively compliant service to researchers and a positive, safe working environment for all technical staff within a well-maintained facility.Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed for the job:Essential
- Relevant academic qualifications at degree level plus relevant experience OR relevant vocational qualifications (i.e. HNC) and significant work experience at a senior grade in an animal facility.
- Hold a Home Office Personal Licence and have a NACWO qualification
- Relevant professional qualifications issued from the Institute of Animal Technology
- Well-developed understanding and working knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedure) Act 1986 and Health and Safety legislation
- Demonstrable knowledge of managing an animal facility
- Proven ability to develop and motivate staff to secure high performance through coaching, motivation and managing performance.
- Proven ability to effectively and clearly communicate to a wide variety of staff and researchers at all levels
- Demonstrable knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams Excel and databases, particularly Tick@Lab.
Desirable
- Registered Animal Technician (RAnTech) professional status
- Experience in the maintenance of complex transgenic breeding programs.
- Experience of working at a senior level within a university research environment
£39,347 to £46,974 (Grade 7)
