Appointment without Term Lecturer: Department of Sociology

Applications are being accepted from qualified individuals for a full-time Appointment without Term position at the Lecturer rank, in the Department of Sociology, effective July 1, 2025 (the anticipated start date).

Particulars of the Position: The Department has teaching needs in courses required by students in our undergraduate programs. These include introductory sociology, sociological theory, and research methods in addition to other courses as required. Substantive areas of teaching expertise and experience are open.

Successful applicants may also be responsible for developing new courses in their areas of teaching interest. Successful applicants will be responsible for participating and providing leadership in relevant committee work and administrative matters related to the Department’s undergraduate program and curriculum development, delivery, evaluation, and renewal.

The full-time Appointment without Term lecturer will have a workload (combination of teaching and administrative duties) of 30 credit units per year. Appointments without Term faculty are eligible for a one-time only three-year graduated teaching load of six (6) – three (3) credit unit courses in year 1; seven (7) – three (3) credit unit course in year 2; and eight (8) – three (3) credit unit courses in year 3. Courses are taught over the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms.

The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer based on the successful candidate’s qualifications. Candidates must have a completed Doctoral Degree in Sociology.

The salary bands for this position for the 2025-2026 academic year are:
Lecturer: $83,150 to $123,458
(salary bands are based on the 2022-23 salary scales)

Teaching Expectations: STM is committed to high-quality teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to make significant contributions to the teaching mission of the College, and (where appropriate) to contribute to one or more of STM’s inter-disciplinary programs (Catholic Studies; Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good; Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies; Jewish and Christian Origins; Ukrainian Studies) according to their interest or requirements of the position, and to forge productive links with the corresponding University of Saskatchewan Department of Sociology. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching.

• copies of transcripts of qualifying degree,
• teaching dossier, including teaching philosophy, copies of teaching evaluations (both by students and peers), sample syllabi, and other materials as appropriate,
• a response to comments from student evaluations (see template),
• at least three letters of reference (please have them sent directly to the Department Head). Applications without reference letters will not be considered.
