Asset Inspector

New Forest District Council

Love working outside in a beautiful forest area?

We have the perfect job for you in our Coastal & Engineering Team. You will provide a vital
role to a wide selection of departments by inspecting Council assets for defects in open
spaces, car parks and stunning coastal locations across the New Forest.

Got an eye for finer details?

This role of Asset Inspector is right up your street as it requires you to notice issues which
may affect the health and safety of the public in these areas and to record/report them to the
relevant office staff for rectifying.

This role is also pivotal in ensuring that both standards and the visual appearance of Council
areas are maintained to a high level and stay safe for all users. As a result, it really does
carry impact and you can make a notable difference to many people’s wellbeing.

What’s in it for you?

  • 22 – 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • £25,783 – £28,140 per annum (Pay award pending)
  • Hybrid Working with daily hours outside
  • Wide range of employee discounts at high street retailers, including supermarkets, stores
    and restaurants
  • A Cycle to Work scheme which could save you around 40 percent on cycles and accessories
  • Local Government Pension Scheme and AVC provision
  • Employee Assistance Programme (free 24 hour legal, financial and personal advice for
    employees).

Looking for most of your work not being tied to a desk?

This job primarily involves driving a Council vehicle across the New Forest District to
visually inspect areas ranging from natural woodlands and children’s play areas to public car
parks and long coastal locations. These inspections are recorded digitally via dedicated
software on a tablet with defects being passed to relevant departments to get fixed.

More minor defects, such as loosened screws on a fence post or a small car park sign that needs
replacing, may be rectified by the Asset Inspector whilst on site using the tools provided. The
majority of works will, however, be undertaken by our in-house works teams.

The role involves a considerable amount of walking on a daily basis so a suitable level of
physical fitness will be required, as well as being happy to work outside in all the seasonal
weather that England gives us!
