JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University seeks an Assistant Director for its Intensive English Communication Program (IECP). This position will be filled at the non-tenure-track rank of Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor.
The IECP consists of a dynamic team of faculty and staff committed to the education of a vibrant, multilingual, and international student population since 1976. The IECP is a unit within the Department of Applied Linguistics, which is part of the College of the Liberal Arts. The IECP contributes to departmental research initiatives and provides opportunities for Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) methods and practicum students. Reporting to the Program Director, the Assistant Director will assist the Director with hiring and acclimation of new teachers; course scheduling; curriculum design; strategic planning; program internal communications; new student orientation; assessment practices and policies; management of summer programming; student meetings; fostering professional development opportunities for faculty and staff; liaising with campus colleagues; and other IECP-related duties as necessary.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in TESL, Applied Linguistics, or related field. ABD will be considered, with the expectation that the successful candidate completes the dissertation by the end of the first year. Rank to be decided based on education and experience.
This is a full-time and limited-term appointment. Length of term is determined by rank and qualifications with a possibility of renewal. The start date for this position is as soon as possible but will be no later than August 2023.
We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

Teaching experience outside of the U.S. or other non-English dominant regions
-
Proficiency in one or more languages other than English
-
Experience in a U.S.-based Intensive English Program, first year writing program, or similar program
-
Experience with curriculum and materials development
-
Experience with Commission on English Language Program Accreditation, grant funding applications, and short-term special programming
-
Engagement in the field via TESOL International Association, NAFSA, English USA, UCIEP, etc.

Knowledge of and willingness to implement decolonial approaches to English language teaching

Willingness to contribute to the field via scholarly contributions (e.g., presentations, publications, etc.)

Outstanding professional, cross-cultural communication, and interpersonal skills
In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
