Wild Frontier Ecology Ltd is an established consultancy based in North Norfolk. We are a broad-based CIEEM registered practice, with experience in most areas of professional ecological consultancy.

We are seeking an Assistant Ecologist to join us on a temporary contract (maternity cover). There will be a combination of fieldwork and desk-based elements to the role. The successful candidate will primarily be involved with a variety of survey work, thermal imager reviews, acoustic analysis and office tasks; and will obtain significant early-career consultancy experience. After initial training, you will also be supported to manage some small projects. During the peak season (May to August), you will be expected to work up to two evenings or early mornings per week to undertake protected species surveys/reviews. Time off in lieu can be taken at other times.

Candidates will demonstrate a good academic record as well as a genuine interest in ecology and natural history. Previous habitat or protected species survey experience is desirable, although training will be provided. Also of importance will be the ability to work flexibly, as part of a team, and with excellent personal organisation. This post would suit a recent ecology graduate looking to gain experience within an established consultancy practice.

A full driving licence will be required so you can attend sites as required for fieldwork. Having your own transport to and from the office will be necessary due to the rural office location.

The employment period will be from August/September 2026 to cover a period of maternity cover. The role will be based at our office in North Norfolk; with survey work across much of East Anglia.

Closing date for applications will be midnight on Friday 7th August 2026.
