We are seeking an Assistant Ecologist to join the Nature Based Solutions team in our Nature
Recovery Directorate.
Assistant Ecologist
Salary: £21,840
Contract type: Fixed term, 12 months (extension subject to funding and
progress in the role)
Working hours: Full time, 35 hrs per week.
Location: Bickley Hall Farm, Malpas, SY14 8EF (Hybrid)
About the Role
You will conduct and assist with ecological surveys and writing survey reports as well as
provide GIS, administrative and technical support to the wider team. You will manage small
scale and single species projects, provide ecological and land management advice to clients and
prepare quotations. Your role will increase the capacity of the NBS team allowing us to deliver
diverse and complex commercial ecological and conservation projects.
The role is perfect for those who have an interest in wildlife conservation and are wanting to
apply their practical ecological skills to improve our understanding of the natural world and
help make a real difference on the ground.
About You
The ideal candidate will have a basic level of botanical and habitat identification skills as
well as an understanding of the Defra statutory biodiversity metric and habitat condition
assessment. They will be proficient in the use of ArcGIS and demonstrate strong all round IT
skills. They will also have experience in one or more of the following: Protected species and
habitat survey, ecological assessment, working on commercial ecology or conservation projects.
