The rank will be determined according to the chosen candidates’ qualifications and experience. This position is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The McGill University Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Jewish General Hospital (JGH) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.The mission of the Division of Neonatology, Jewish General Hospital is to optimize the health and well-being of premature or acutely ill newborns within the context of their families. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admits 600 to 700 infants yearly. We provide a wide range of tertiary clinical services which address the health needs of vulnerable infants with complex conditions including fetuses at risk identified prior to birth, extreme prematurity, intrauterine growth restriction, or congenital anomalies.Situated in a large university hospital complex adjacent to a busy high risk obstetrical service, the Neonatology service cares for both inborn and outborn infants, the latter transferred from an extensive network throughout Quebec and supported by neonatal transport programs across the province.The Division of Neonatology at the Jewish General Hospital is a clinically strong group composed of six neonatologists with various clinical, educational, and research interests and expertise. Our multidisciplinary team also includes nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, occupational therapists, and social workers.Our particular strength is in the care of extremely premature or growth-restricted newborns. In addition, our Division is enriched by a longstanding Neonatal Follow-Up program and a group of associate pediatricians and family physicians who contribute to the ongoing care of neonates in the NICU. We have a strong clinical program for antenatal diagnosis, in collaboration with our team of Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, medical geneticists, and genetic counsellors.The Division of Neonatology has its own Simulation Center, which is used for Mock Codes and teaching of various technical skills. We are actively working to integrate new technologies into our practice, including point-of-care ultrasonography and targeted functional echocardiography. We also train both physicians and neonatal nurse practitioners. In addition to rotating general pediatric residents and off-service residents, we are an active teaching site in McGill’s Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine training program and two neonatal fellowship programs.Medical students also rotate through our unit and division members have extensive involvement in teaching at various levels and are involved in diverse scholarly activities at the hospital and the university as well as nationally and internationally. Our members provide teaching within the contexts of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and the Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) to a wide variety of learners. Our cohesive team is dedicated to clinical excellence, teaching, quality improvement, research and innovation.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be an active physician member of the Division of Neonatology at the Jewish General Hospital. Candidates are expected to equally share the daytime clinical service, as well as the night and weekend calls in our NICU and Maternal-Child postpartum ward. Clinical supervision of house staff (i.e., fellows, residents and medical students) is required.The successful candidate’s mandate can be tailored according to their strengths and interests. Definite assets would include a strong interest or expertise in simulation, medical education, point-of-care ultrasonography, neonatal hemodynamics, or neonatal follow-up. Clinical innovations that could be implemented in our environment would also be viewed as assets. Involvement in clinical or basic science research will be strongly encouraged and supported.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will contribute to the interdisciplinary education mission of the Department of Pediatrics, including the training of neonatal nurse practitioner students.All McGill faculty members are also expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education RequirementsCandidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree or equivalent, and hold or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
  • Have postgraduate clinical training in Pediatrics;
  • Have completed specialty training in Neonatology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
