The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Department of Surgery is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will join an academic and high-volume Orthopedic Division at the Jewish General Hospital JGH) specializing in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Foot and Ankle care and non-level 1 Trauma. The JGH is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.Job Duties:
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include providing surgical care at the Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Service of the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) as well as participating in the care of Trauma patients. The successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of surgeons. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching.The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery and be expected to demonstrate aptitude, enthusiasm, and excellence in surgical education. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education Requirements:· Applicants must hold a medical degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;· Applicants must have completed subspecialty training in Orthopedics and be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);· Applicants must have completed at least one year of clinical and/or research training in Hip and Knee Surgery at a recognized centre. Additional clinical fellowship training would be an asset;· Additional graduate training in the form of a Masters (e.g., MSc, MPH, MBA, etc), or a PhD degree would be an asset;· Applicants should have a strong and demonstrable interest in research (i.e., clinical, basic science, education, or epidemiology) and/or in innovation;· A significant publication record and successful grant funding will be considered an assets; additional clinical and/or research fellowships would also be an asset;· Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
