The Student Wellness and Counselling Centre of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking a faculty member to join our collaborative team of psychologists. We invite applications for a Tenure Track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, or an appointment with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor, from candidates with clinical expertise and professional practice in the area of Professional Psychology – Clinical or Counselling. The position will commence upon successful completion of the search (start date negotiable) on the St. John’s, NL campus.
Memorial’s Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) comprises counselling and psychology, student health, and wellness professionals. The Centre aims to facilitate the health and wellness of the student body by providing integrated in-centre services and programs and connecting students with other campus and community resources. The SWCC’s holistic and interprofessional approach to facilitating student wellbeing is reflected in our commitment to developing and furthering interprofessional scholarship and practice that cultivates a healthy campus community.
This Academic position will report to the Director, Student Wellness and Counselling Centre. As part of an academic unit that functions as a hybrid clinical training and practice site, the successful candidate will maintain a clinical practice and must hold the qualifications and experience needed to provide evidence-based psychological treatment and intervention to individuals and groups across a broad spectrum of student concerns and mental health issues. We welcome applicants with expertise in postsecondary mental health and a strong commitment to cultural humility and social justice. Experience and competence in assessment (including cognitive, psychoeducational and psycho-diagnostic assessments), and training doctoral residents in assessment, is an asset.
The successful applicant will have a central role in our training programs and experience in clinical supervision is required. The candidate will be expected to supervise and train professional psychology residents in a well-established Canadian Psychological Association-accredited Doctoral Residency Program, with the support of our experienced Training Committee. Counselling faculty may also be involved in supervision of graduate students and interprofessional training of medical residents.
Reflecting its hybrid mandate and structure (clinical and academic), the SWCC embraces a comprehensive approach to research and scholarship that recognizes and fosters the unique and vital contributions of clinician scholars. The SWCC’s Psychosocial Collaborative Research Unit (PCRU) reflects the high value placed on collaborative scholarship to address the gap between
academic research and clinical practice. PCRU projects span scholarship of discovery, scholarship of integration, scholarship of application, and/or the scholarship of teaching. An established record with research, scholarship, and grant applications would be an asset.
Qualifications:
• Completed doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology required (PhD or PsyD)
• Evidence of eligibility for full registration as a Psychologist (R.Psych) with the Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board (NLPB) is a requirement for this position
• Knowledge of the mental health and counselling needs of students within a diverse post-secondary setting
• Experience in supervising and teaching psychology trainees
• Experience in counselling at a higher education site and/or working in a clinical team with varied theoretical orientations
• Scholarship activity, including knowledge dissemination
The ideal candidate would possess interest and expertise in one or more of the following areas: 2SLGBTQIA+ mental health; diversity and intersectionality; social justice and advocacy; trauma-informed practice; and/or professional leadership.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement with Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association (MUNFA). For more information about MUNFA, see https://munfa.ca. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
