Department: PathobiologyPosition Description:AD24-33The Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in Veterinary Clinical Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.The candidate will have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent veterinary degree in addition to a PhD or equivalent advanced graduate training in veterinary clinical pathology. Board certification or eligibility to be certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP) is essential, and experience teaching veterinary clinical pathology would be an asset. Other preferred qualifications include a demonstrated potential to establish a competitive independent or collaborative research program as evidenced by high-quality publications and prior grants in an area suitable for funding from Canadian and international funding agencies. The applicant and their proposed research program should be suitable for the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers in the area of pathology.The Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College has recognized excellence in mammalian and comparative pathology, veterinary infectious diseases, and immunology. The incoming candidate will join a strong group of researchers and teachers in both clinical and anatomic veterinary pathology with collaborative projects across the University and spanning the world. More information is available by viewing .In an engaging, collegial and supportive atmosphere, the incumbent will share in teaching DVM and graduate students, including trainees in applied programs in the discipline of clinical pathology, through lectures, small group discussions, and experiential learning. The 3 clinical pathology faculty and 4-6 clinical pathology trainees enjoy a close relationship with anatomic pathologists and trainees and have lively and stimulating case discussions in our large, shared microscope room. Diagnostic investigations are conducted in close collaboration with the University of Guelph Animal Health Laboratory (AHL), a full-service AAVLD-accredited laboratory. The AHL’s Clinical Pathology Laboratory has an excellent team of two ACVP board-certified clinical pathologists, laboratory manager, and 5 full-time and 2 part-time medical laboratory technologists.The Department is housed together with the AHL, in a 13 000 square meter building holding well-equipped, modern research and diagnostic laboratories including a state-of-the-art flow cytometry suite and an advanced hemostasis testing laboratory. The College has a large veterinary teaching hospital (Health Sciences Centre), the small animal oncology centre (Animal Cancer Centre), and several initiatives related to translational medicine. In addition, researchers have access to nearby research stations suitable for conducting studies in a variety of domestic and laboratory animals, and a newly built, on-campus, level-2 animal isolation facility with capacity for large animals.Salary and rank are negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications.The University of Guelph is the third largest employer in Guelph, a city of approximately 130,000 people, located about an hour drive west of Toronto, Ontario.
