Kamloops offers world class tourism and recreation, excellent cultural, social, and economic opportunities, as well as over 2,000 hours of sunshine annually.The Faculty of Arts invites applications for a tenure-track position in Creative Writing. This is a teaching/service/research position located in the Department of Literatures, Languages, and Performing Arts. The successful candidate should be well suited to teach creative writing at all levels, in a variety of areas including playwriting, short fiction, and creative non-fiction, and will contribute to a new Major program in development combining Theatre and Creative Writing.The department will give weight to a candidate who has demonstrated experience and ability teaching in a collaborative manner. The department also encourages a commitment to networking with other departments in Arts and the community beyond TRU to instigate innovative, interdisciplinary connections and projects. This will be particularly important as our new interdisciplinary M.A. in Human Rights and Social Justice develops. Digital publication is a particular realm of interest that the successful candidate may bring to our department, in recognition of the role that technology plays in the production, preservation, and adaptation of creative arts.QUALIFICATIONSCandidates should minimally have an MFA in Creative Writing or equivalent (Ph.D. preferred) with demonstrated teaching experience and a record of practice in creative writing.Further qualifications that will be considered include creative writing publications in well-respected journals and by reputable publishers; as well, experience within the creative industries sector, with a range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, will be considered an asset. A successful candidate will have experience teaching post-secondary Creative Writing and Literature courses, and a record of departmental and broader service.Applications will be reviewed commencing June 15, 2024 and may continue until position is filled.Thompson Rivers University is strongly committed to fostering diversity within our community.
