The School of Life Sciences (SLS) and the Warwick Mathematics Institute (WMI) wish to a appoint two excellent and ambitious early career principal investigators to our academic research and teaching staff.Currently, much of this expertise is located within the Zeeman Institute for Systems Biology and Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research (SBIDER, ). SBIDER has around 25 academic staff members from multiple departments in the science faculty, including 3 staff members who hold joint positions between SLS and WMI.SBIDER has world-leading research in infectious disease epidemiology (particularly vector-borne diseases, livestock infections and control by vaccination, and is renowned for its work during the COVID-19 pandemic), genomics (leading the Genomics Health Protection Research Unit) and systems biology (including cellular mechanisms, cancer and neuroscience).These research areas are complemented by expertise in SLS and WMI, such as in systems and engineering biology, including within SLS’s quantitative and engineering biology cluster (QSEB). Both departments have an excellent track-record of high-impact research and publications, grant-funding success and nurturing early career researchers.About YouIndividuals will be expected to have original research programmes that contain elements of both mathematics and life sciences. SLS attracts a diverse, vibrant, high-achieving community of students and we benefit from a number of research council Doctoral Training centres across a breadth of UKRI funded programmes as well as attracting research students from a wide range of external scholarships and programmes.Warwick Mathematics Institute (WMI) is internationally renowned for its research across broad areas of Maths, and it attracts some of the brightest undergraduates and postgraduate students. WMI has a growing reputation for high-quality, high-impact applied mathematics supported by a range of seminars, meetings and workshops and the newly established Centre for Applications of Mathematical & Computing Sciences.Both departments deliver high quality teaching using a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methods, and consistently achieve high scores in the National Student Satisfaction survey.
