Basic Function:
The University of Rhode Island’s Department of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in The College of Pharmacy invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position in the general pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences area at the Assistant Professor rank beginning in Spring/Fall 2025. The successful candidate will be appointed the inaugural “RI-INBRE Faculty Scholar” and will significantly expand faculty research at URI into biologics, antibodies, protein-protein/protein-nucleic acid interactions, and/or biomarkers. This professor will be eligible for RI-INBRE funding, which provides crucial developmental support for early career investigators. In addition, the RI-INBRE Faculty Scholar will have free access to the RI-INBRE Centralized Research Core Facility (CRCF) and Data Science/Molecular Informatics Core (MIC), enhancing their research

Duties and responsibilities:
Develop a vibrant, independent, and sustainable drug discovery and development research program focusing on the chemical biology of biologics, antibodies, protein/peptides, protein-protein/protein-nucleic acid interactions, and/or biomarkers. Seek extramural funding to support the research program. Publish high-quality research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses for the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) programs. Participate in RI-INBRE programming, including the Workforce Development & Training (WDT), Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF), and related training programs. Provide research mentorship to undergraduates, professional and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Engage in service activities in the RI-INBRE program, the College of Pharmacy, and the University community.
Required Qualifications:
1. Earned doctorate in chemical, pharmaceutical, and biomedical sciences or a related field by appointment time.
2. Demonstrated ability to teach chemical, pharmaceutical, and biomedical science-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
3. Strong evidence of scholarly activity, e.g., first-authored publications in peer-reviewed Journals in areas of biologics, antibodies, or biomarkers.
4. Commitment to multidisciplinary research, utilizing RI-INBRE’s core capacities, such as biosensors, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, imaging resources, data science, etc. This commitment aligns with RI-INBRE Scholar’s goal of fostering innovation in biologics research.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
7. Demonstrated experience working with members of diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated postdoctoral fellowship experience.
2. Demonstrated experience conducting research programs in drug development, chemical biology, or drug delivery, adding critical new research expertise that will complement the existing research in the College of Pharmacy, such as immunology and related topics.
3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with members of diverse groups for excellence in teaching and mentoring.
4. Evidence of applying for and/or obtaining research funding.
