This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine. Our focus is on the care of patients with acute and complex medical disorders; we have focused clinical programs in perioperative medicine, thrombosis medicine, medical obstetrics, and cardiovascular health. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.As a Clinician-Teacher, your major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching.As a Clinician-Educator, you will focus on education research of sufficient caliber to publish in peer-reviewed journals or education administration, with a focus on leading/developing world class training programs.Clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to medical in-patient and consultation services (in-patient and emergency departments), with a particular focus on ambulatory General Internal Medicine clinics including the Diagnostic and Therapeutics Clinics, cardiovascular health, preoperative care, and medical obstetrics. In addition, another major area of focus will be the teaching and education mandate. As the FMHS expands the medical school class sizes, there is an anticipated need for increased formal/didactic teaching at the Faculty, the Simulation Centre and in support of the training programs, as well as an eventual growth in the need for clinical teaching.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education requirementsCandidates must:Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;Have completed subspecialty training in General Internal Medicine;Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);Be certified by the Collège des Médecins du Québec;Clinician-Teacher applicants require further advanced training medical education and would benefit from additional training in ambulatory care medicine or other areas of interest to General Internal Medicine;Clinician-Educator applicants require further advanced training in medical education and in addition training in ambulatory care medicine or other areas of interest to General Internal Medicine;Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
