This will be a Contract Academic Staff Position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The McGill University Department of Pathology offers medical education and research training in a wide variety of areas such as carcinogenesis, mechanisms of respiratory diseases, molecular pathology and immunology, neoplasia and cell biology, cell differentiation, biomedical image processing, neurodegenerative disorders, and ophthalmic pathology.The successful candidate will be actively involved in the academic mission of the Department of Pathology; they will join a diverse team of experts committed to providing innovative teaching to prepare future leaders in pathology and medical science. Departmental members are engaged in high-impact research that expands our basic understanding of human health and disease and its treatment in order to model optimal pathology practice to provide timely, highest quality, and up-to-date evidence-based diagnostic consultation services that integrate histologic and molecular characterization of disease to our patient population.The successful candidate will join an academic and high-volume comprehensive division at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)—a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be expected to be involved in intraoperative consultations, on-call duties, multidisciplinary rounds, and participation in quality control/assurance initiatives. The incumbent will be expected to maintain the highest possible standards of practice, including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and turn-around times. Clinical teaching and supervision of pathology residents and medical students are considered an integral part of the position’s duties. The primary practice of the position is Gastrointestinal pathology; minor coverage of a second subspecialty may also be required as needed.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education RequirementsCandidates must:Hold an MD degree;Have certification in Anatomic Pathology/Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology;Be certified by the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);Hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;Have completed fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology/General surgical Pathology with a GI Pathology focus;Have a demonstrable interest in teaching, clinical research, administration and/or innovation;Bilingual language skills (French or English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
