The McGill University Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Department of Surgery is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will join the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the MUHC with possible cross appointment at the Jewish General Hospital. The MUHC consists of five surgeons dedicated to providing the highest standards Cardiac Surgery patient care, research, and education.The MUHC performs 850 Adult Cardiac Surgical cases with emphasis on complex valvular surgery including, Aortic surgery, Heart failure (ECMO, VAD and Transplant), as well as advanced surgical treatment of coronary disease. Within the Heart Team, we have an active and diverse percutaneous valve. We work closely and collaboratively with Cardiology, Vascular Surgery and Critical Care.The Division is active in Research (Stem Cells, Aortic Biomechanics, Clinical Outcomes) and has an important role in Surgical Education. The MUHC is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.Job Duties:The Division of Cardiac Surgery is seeking a candidate with clinical expertise in the surgical management of heart failure and whose academic career will also focus on surgical education.The successful candidate will be involved in all academic activities of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and will be expected to engage in and develop an academic practice at the MUHC. The incumbent will participate actively in all clinical activities in the Division of Cardiac Surgery. Fellowship training and/or recognized experience in Heart Failure, ECMO, VAD, and Heart Transplantation are essential for the successful candidate.The successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of surgeons and creating an academic career in surgical education. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Canada (or equivalent);
Management of Heart Failure;
language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec.
