This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Department of Surgery is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will join an academic and high-volume comprehensive Division at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)—a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.The Hepato-pancreato-biliary Surgery Program at the MUHC consists of 6 surgeons dedicated to the achievement of excellence in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgical patient care, research, and education. The Hepato-pancreato-biliary Surgery Program’s clinical activities include surgical treatment of premalignant and malignant diseases of the liver, biliary tract and pancreas, with innovation focuses on precision health and transplant oncology. The Program is at the forefront of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgical patient care in Québec and Canada, with international recognition for leadership and innovation in the field.Job Duties:The successful candidate’s primary clinical role will be to develop an academic hepato-pancreato-biliary surgical practice at the MUHC that includes minimally invasive/robotic surgical approaches. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in McGill’s broader academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees), with a teaching dossier centred on clinical teaching and supervision of research trainees.The successful candidate will be appointed to a faculty position in the surgeon-scientist stream. Successful candidates who advance through the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQS) clinician-scientist Junior 1, Junior 2, and Senior awards stream may be eligible for tenure track at the completion of the Senior award.The successful candidate will thus enter the surgeon-scientist stream with a mandate to establish a fundamental/translational science research program centered on improving the clinical outcomes hepato-pancreato-biliary malignancies. The incumbent will be supported with a mentorship program to facilitate their successful progress through the FRQS clinician-scientist stream and will be required to apply to the Phase 3 (i.e., pre-clinician scientist) or Junior 1 clinician-scientist awards in the first year of their appointment.The incumbent must also be able to demonstrate excellence in clinical care, teaching, and preparedness to establish an independent fundamental/translational science research program at the Research Institute of the MUHC.All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education Requirements:Candidates must:Hold an MD, and must hold or be eligible for, licensure in the Province of Quebec;Have training in General Surgery with a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (FRCSC), or equivalent;Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;Have Fellowship training in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgical oncology that is Fellowship Council accredited. Training in abdominal organ transplantation is not mandatory;Have Fellowship training that includes advanced training in minimally invasive and robotic hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery;Have demonstrable interest in research and innovation with advanced research training (i.e., PhD or Post-doctoral research training);Be committed to clinical excellence, research, and education;Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
