The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Computer or Software Engineering. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence July 1, 2025.

We are seeking applicants with research interests in the broad areas of Software Engineering or Computer Engineering. While our search is not limited to specific subareas, we are particularly interested in Software Development for Emerging Technologies, Cybersecurity in Software and Systems, Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems, Cloud and Distributed Systems. Strong applicants working in other cutting-edge or classical areas of Software or Computer Engineering are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to disseminate their research contributions in significant journals and conferences in the field, and train students in their field of expertise. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate is expected to be an effective teacher capable to teaching in both online and in-person settings as needed.

Candidate Qualifications:
Degree: A PhD in Software or Computer Engineering or a closely related field is required, either in hand or near completion by the appointment’s start. Undergraduate degrees in Software or Computer Engineering or closely related majors with a relevant concentration or specialization will be considered an additional asset.
Scholarship:
• A coherent and well-articulated program of research and specialization in Software Engineering or Computer Engineering, particularly in the areas of Software Development for Emerging Technologies, Cybersecurity in Software and Systems, Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems, Cloud and Distributed Systems.
• A record or evident promise of generating innovative, substantive, rigorous, and as appropriate, externally funded research and/or research creation.
• A record or evident promise of making influential contributions and demonstrating excellence in the field (e.g., a research statement, a record of publications or forthcoming publications in significant journals or conferences in the field; and/or awards and accolades).
Teaching:
• A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, official student and peer evaluations).
• Suitability for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, given that the position will involve graduate teaching and supervision.
• Additional: Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Professional Engineering (or Limited) license in Canada shortly after their appointment.
