The Department of Engineering at Durham University is continuing an exciting period of strategic growth and seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor of Engineering Management. We welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests in the broad field of engineering management but are particularly eager to hear from applicants whose research intersects with and enhances our existing research nodes, or who brings industrial relevance, experience and expertise to enhance the Department’s business. They will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to a collegiate and proactive approach to working with colleagues across the Department and University.The successful candidate will also be actively involved in research-led engineering education. As part of its strategic expansion, the Department is developing a taught postgraduate MSc in Engineering Management which will be supported by three new academic posts. The Assistant Professor of Engineering Management will support the development of this new programme and contribute to its delivery and the surrounding research and teaching environment, with the aim of delivering a successful and exciting programme from October 2026. To recognise the significant work required to achieve this, the postholders will have minimal teaching responsibilities within their first 12 months, allowing them the time and space to develop the programme and to become established within the Department.This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding, unified Engineering Department which is recognised as one of the very best in the UK, with a reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our graduates. Thematically, our research is split into eight which group together our day-to-day activities and expertise. We are particularly proud of the collaborative interdisciplinary nature of our research, which also includes strong industrial partnerships.We are keen to hear from candidates who have already achieved Chartered status. If not already professionally qualified, candidates will be expected to demonstrate the ability and desire to become Chartered.
