Offer DescriptionThe School of Modern Languages and Cultures seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor in TESOL and Digital Language Learning Technology. Federating research and teaching in languages and cultures from around the world, The School’s expertise spans Europe, the Arab world, Russophone Eurasia, Hispanic America, and East Asia, and their mutual socio-cultural, intellectual and linguistic relations. Language pedagogy is central to what we do, through our undergraduate degree programme in languages and cultures, and our Centre for Foreign Language Study, which offers students from across the university the opportunity to learn languages in the way and at the level best suited to them. The successful applicant will contribute especially to the delivery and development of Durham’s highly successful MA in TESOL and Applied Linguistics, which has a long-standing reputation for attracting and training teachers of English from around the world. You will hold a good first degree and a PhD in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or related subject (or equivalent demonstrable practitioner experience and skills, which may include appropriate certification and/or membership of a relevant professional body). You will have a record of teaching excellence in an area of English-language pedagogy, demonstrate experience of applying and integrating technology into English language teaching, and provide evidence of innovation in relation to pedagogy and programme development. The appointment will be on our ‘Education Track’ career path, which provides clearly defined opportunities for progression against defined criteria. You will contribute to teaching, pedagogic innovation and citizenship, and will have the opportunity to enhance your professional development, develop your teaching expertise, engage in teaching innovation, and enrich our student experience.
