Our commitment to employment equity helps achieve inclusion and fairness, brings rich diversity to UBC as a workplace, and creates the necessary conditions for a rewarding career.The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching, tenure track or Associate Professor of Teaching, tenure.The UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, is an active, interdisciplinary, and collaborative department that counts over 45 academic Faculty and 300 clinical Faculty, distributed across multiple sites within the province. The Department hosts the undergraduate Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) Program ( 48 students), a Graduate Program typically counting 65-75 students, as well as a Residency Program (up to 40 residents).Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the BMLSc program, collaborate with other programs and departments and to assume the position of Director for the BMLSc Program, and work with and direct the BMLSc Program Coordinator, the Educational Services Manager, and teaching technicians. For over 40 years, the BMLSc Program has provided interdisciplinary and evolving education to diverse cohorts. The highly regarded Program offers courses in Years 3 and 4, that are taught by clinical and academic faculty and laboratory staff. The Program provides a collegial environment for educators, with opportunities for collaboration regarding teaching practices, course design, and educational scholarship.In addition to overseeing the administration of the BMLSc Program, the successful candidate will be responsible for student recruitment and program promotion, lead its curriculum renewal/update and possible expansion, adapt the program to the changing landscape of laboratory medicine and teaching methodologies. This will require interacting and collaborating with various stakeholders within academia, clinical laboratories, government, or accreditation bodies. They will also explore new program opportunities for BMLSc trainees, participate in course coordination and teaching activities of the program, and provide direct support and mentorship to its undergraduate learners, instructors, and staff. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.   • If appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching (tenure track), the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of ability and commitment to teaching and innovation, promise of educational leadership, and direct interactions with students.
  • If appointed at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching (tenure), the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching, demonstrated educational leadership, involvement in curriculum development and innovation, teaching and learning initiative, and elevated student support.

In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and, respect of diverse perspectives. Experience in collaborating and bringing forward projects with diverse groups, including colleagues, students, and/or stakeholders, is valued.This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.The expected salary range for this position is from $140,000 to $170,000 per annum at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching and $170,000 to $200,000 at the rank of Associate Professor of Teaching.
