) in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University are seeking to recruit an outstanding scientist to join the interdepartmental Retina and Optic Nerve Research Group. The successful candidate will hold a joint tenure-stream appointment in the Department of Medical Neuroscience (80%) and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science (20%) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.Required qualifications and experience for this position include a Ph.D. or equivalent, at least three years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrated research excellence in visual neuroscience, and demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded, dynamic research program in visual neuroscience. Applicants with research programs in fundamental and/or translational aspects of retinal circuitry, cell biology, or physiology, including the optic nerve and retinal pigment epithelium, as well as mechanisms of neurodegenerative and genetic vision disorders, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will expand interactions with clinical research groups in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, leading to collaborative translational research efforts, and participate in the training of ophthalmology residents and fellows. As a member of the Department of Medical Neuroscience, they will have opportunities to interact and collaborate with faculty studying diverse areas of neuroscience, including neurodevelopment, spinal cord and locomotion, sleep, and nerve injury, and train students in the Medical Neuroscience graduate program. They will also contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and administrative activities at the departmental and faculty levels.The successful candidate will join the Retina and Optic Nerve Research Laboratory, a shared laboratory space that includes facilities for microscopy, cell and tissue culture, live cell and in vivo ocular imaging, and electrophysiology. To support their research program, the successful candidate will have access to dedicated laboratory space, start-up funds, and state-of-the-art core facilities including Cellular and Molecular Digital Imaging, Biological Mass Spectrometry, Electron Microscopy, and Histology ( ).
