Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,585 to £54,395 with potential progression once in post to £61,198Closes: 23/06/2024Academic Development Programme – new Assistant Professors will undertake a 5-year development programme, at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.BackgroundThe School of Pharmacy is seeking to appoint a number of outstanding Assistant Professors in the areas of Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, and Clinical Pharmacy to join our growing and vibrant team. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to strengthen and diversify our current research portfolio and/or to contribute to the educational excellence of the School.Role SummaryResearch and Education focused posts:Applicants will have an established track-record of research in an area that can complement existing expertise within the School of Pharmacy, and wider College. We are particularly interested in translational pharmacology and pharmaceutical science which can be translated into clinical research in a timely fashion.As a PI, the candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop an independent research platform that will be internationally competitive and contribute to strategic priorities for the College and wider University community. The post-holders will show a desire to develop high-quality teaching initiatives appropriate to their research specialism.The University of Birmingham School of Pharmacy has a collegial culture, residing within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences, facilitating interdisciplinary working with other researchers in a research environment which encourages collaboration with clinical colleagues, enabling translational and patient-facing projects. Our University provides a strong platform for interdisciplinary research and to build national and international collaborations.Education focused posts:Applicants will have experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, across a wide range of subjects relevant to the practice of pharmacy or clinical applications of pharmacy, with scholarship aligned to the School’s core areas of clinical pharmacy or pharmaceutics. You will be working with a welcoming and supportive community of pharmacy academics, with the opportunity to participate in the design, development, organisation, and delivery within the MPharm, with a focus on the principles of Pharmacy practice in a changing profession within our new prescribing curriculum. Our MPharm programme is a well-regarded undergraduate programme, producing high quality pharmacy graduates.Person Specification

  • Normally, a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications AND/OR evidence of training, specialist skills and abilities as an experienced clinical pharmacist for the relevant posts
  • Research/teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism or industrial experience
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning/research
