The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among our community members ( ). We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing ‘s strengths. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. Additionally, candidates must have demonstrated experience and knowledge of health and safety legislation and process, with a track record of delivering in-person or online health and safety training to others. The successful candidate will be expected to lead and manage the Institute’s Teaching Laboratory and design studio, teach courses within the Institute, and contribute meaningfully to the BME curriculum through innovative practices and pedagogical research.Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant, course instructor or teaching lab manager, experience leading successful workshops, seminars or course laboratories, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Toronto is a multidisciplinary research community where engineering, medicine and dentistry investigators collaborate to develop innovative solutions that address global challenges in human health. Located in the heart of Canada’s largest health-care research network, our faculty offer quality education to students who receive training in biomedical and clinical engineering. Hosted by BME, the Teaching Lab and Design Studio are instructional spaces for biomedical engineering education. The Teaching Lab, consisting of more than 3000 square feet and a capacity to host up to 60 students, houses state of the art technologies which is used for fulfilling the practical components of more than 10 biomedical engineering courses, as well as classes for other engineering departments. The Design Studio is an open-access space available to all students within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering to book for the completion of course assignments and design projects. In addition to offering a collaborative space for education and design, the studio is also equipped with advanced tools for the rapid production and testing of biomedical devices.
