Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati (UC) – Clermont College Department of Social Sciences invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science beginning fall semester of 2025.

The primary responsibility of a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College is to teach a 4 x 4 course load. In addition, the position also involves curricular oversight and potential programmatic review. Opportunities to conduct scholarly work and engage in other professional or creative activities are possible and encouraged, but not required. This position will support Clermont College’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff, and all of our activities.

It is a one-year position with potential for one-time renewal.

While the primary focus of this position is successful in-person teaching of undergraduate courses in Political Science, the ideal candidate will also be familiar with alternative instructional formats such as hybrid, hyflex, and online synchronous and/or asynchronous. The secondary focus of this role is to help the department evaluate and enhance existing course content and to provide the college with a roadmap for expanding our Political Science offerings, should future enrollment support that possibility.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct and teach assigned undergraduate courses.
  • Attend meetings, participate in governance in an ad hoc capacity, prepare materials for teaching.
  • Evaluate and develop curriculum for department and/or college as well as assessment plans.
  • Serve as an academic adviser for students and evaluate student coursework.
  • (optionally) Serve on college or university committees and participate in curriculum development activities.
  • Engage in other activities ancillary to or in support of his or her responsibilities.
  • Render service to the professional or lay community which is relevant to the individual’s academic specialty.
  • Review, and where necessary, respond in a timely manner to all University-related communications.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Education

Earned Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university of recognized standing in a field appropriate to the requirements of the position. PhD candidates with a scheduled defense date (to be confirmed by the dissertation chair) will be considered.

Required Experience

  • Prior in-person teaching experience (at any level) is expected.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and work with students at a different levels of college readiness including high school students enrolled in dual-enrollment programs, accommodations and learning preferences, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
