The Department of Statistics invites applications for four full-time probationary (tenure-track) positions at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2025, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department seeks emerging scholars with experience in Statistics or Data Science. Outstanding candidates with research interests and/or contributions in any area relevant to Data Science will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will complement or extend the Department’s strengths in Statistics and Data Science. The successful candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or a related area with distinguishing attributes grounded in Data Science at the start date of the appointment, and show a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

The ideal candidate will bring and support new synergies within and potentially outside the Department. People with experience in Statistical Machine Learning, Computational Statistics, Sampling Methods, High Dimensional Data Analysis, Astrostatistics, Artificial Intelligence or Data Mining are especially invited to apply. Applied experience in areas of applications such as environmental sciences, health sciences, bioinformatics and postdoctoral experience in interdisciplinary research would also be considered an asset.

Duties will include undergraduate teaching and supervision, graduate teaching and supervision, research, including establishing and maintaining an externally funded research program, and service-related activities. The successful candidate will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications; will either have, or will be expected to establish and maintain an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally funded research program; will have demonstrated strength in or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions in Statistics and Data Science; and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

The Department currently has 13 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 5 Instructors, and offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Statistics. The Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) Prairies Regional Centre is also housed within the Department.
