We create exceptional educational experiences to foster students’ physical, mental and emotional development in order to service to the global adventure industry. You will join an innovative team dedicated to our leadership role in Canada’s post-secondary adventure training.The Adventure Studies department deeply respects and values the traditional lands of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and the T’exelc on which we reside, and the territories of the St’át’imc, Nlaka’pamux, Tŝilhqot’in, Nuxalk and Dakelh communities in which we serve. Superior communication, administrative and risk management skills are required to work effectively in a challenging environment with other full and part-time faculty. It is paramount that the applicant be able to fulfill a leadership role in the Adventure Studies Department, to work independently, and be a role model that provides mentorship to our students. The applicant will be a lifelong learner, with a strong understanding of decolonization and the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion. Being a student- centered instructor, you will be able to teach both lower level and upper level courses and instruct a combination of classroom and field courses.To apply, please include a CV and a cover letter that outlines your adventure experience, interest in the role, and your understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in adventure programming. Please ensure that you clearly identify through your CV which ADVG courses that you would be capable to instruct, or have the aptitude to instruct with a moderate amount of mentorship and training.Inquiries about program details prior to application are welcomed by the department co-chair, Sharman Learie, slearie@tru.ca.Prepare, organize and teach classroom courses in a variety of topics such as: cultural considerations for adventure programming, business and marketing skills for adventure operations, introduction to the adventure industry, expedition planning, guiding leadership, wilderness environment, or other outdoor and adventure related topics. The final teaching assignment will depend on the educational and professional background of the successful candidate;Prepare, organize and instruct field courses in one or several program training areas. This might include the Mountain Program (hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering, ski touring) and/or the Water Program (whitewater kayaking, canoeing, rafting, sea kayaking), or other;The ability to teach other field and classroom courses is an asset;Prepare, organize logistics, hire staff, and supervise a number of field and classroom courses;Manage department vehicle fleet and equipment and capital purchasing;Mentor and advise students;Participate in department administrative and service duties;Other duties as required by the department for special projects.QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s degree is required along with significant outdoor/adventure related experience and industry qualifications. Candidates with significant cultural and industry experience, and a willingness to complete a Master’s degree, may be considered;Graduate from an adventure program is an asset;Relevant field activity qualifications with adventure industry accrediting associations;Classroom and field teaching experience, with a demonstrated ability to be innovative;Experience with diversity, inclusivity and Indigenization of curriculum is an asset;Current Advanced Wilderness First Aid;Class 2 or 4 driver’s license;The salary range for this position is $72,951 – $113,016, placement on the Salary Scale is in accordance with the .
