The successful candidate will have proven experience in anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and decolonizing teaching practices in human service education. The successful candidate will teach face to face at the Kamloops campus in the HUMS program and will make service contributions via active participation in program and department meetings, and through attendance at faculty council.The successful candidate will have experience working at the diploma and certificate level with a diverse student body. The candidate will bring their experience in preparing such students for professional practice. Ideally, the candidate will have experience preparing students to enter practice or ladder up into the next level of education, for example from a HUMS diploma to a BSW or undergraduate Child and Youth Care degree. Candidates with a demonstrated pedagogical foundation relevant to ensuring EACS and HUMS course content contributes to reconciliation, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and decolonizing human service education, and teaching experience in all human service areas are encouraged to apply.ABOUT THOMPSON RIVERS UNIVERSITY

The School of Social Work and Human Service offers a wide range of academic programs to approximately 250 students on two campuses and more than 100 students through Open Learning. Programs include: Bachelor of Social Work Degree, the Human Service Diploma, Education Assistant and Community Support Certificate (offered at both The School also has plans to offer a Master of Social Work degree.The Human Service Diploma program builds on over 50 years of offering professional practice education in Canada. The program prepares sought-after, competent human service workers to provide service within regional, national, and global contexts to achieve social justice, respect for diversity, and social change. Our graduates work in collaborative and anti-oppressive ways across a full range of service. The program is committed to learner-centred education that helps students understand the barriers preventing people from reaching their full potential, as well as how to work with social movements and programs aiming to eradicate such barriers. Indigenous perspectives are integrated throughout the curriculum and within one required human service practice course focused on human service work within Indigenous communities. We are committed as a School of Social Work and Human Service to redress the legacy of residential schools and to advance the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, including Two Spirit people (NIMMIWG).QUALIFICATIONSEducational:

  • PhD/EdD with a focus relevant to human service practice preferred; Master’s degree in Social Work or Child and Youth Care required.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods in ways appropriate to your social location (TRC CA 62).
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63).
  • Experience developing culturally appropriate curricula preferred (TRC CA 10).
  • Demonstrated ability to commit to creating time and space for relationships based on respect as human beings, supporting and embracing differences with kindness, love, and respect (NIMMIWG, 15.7).
  • Experience educating education and community support and/or human service diploma students in the role that front-line workers play in redressing the legacy of residential schools and advancing the Canadian Reconciliation process preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ (full-time equivalent) post-secondary education instructional experience required with a demonstrated pedagogical foundation of anti-oppressive and decolonizing education.
  • Experience teaching in an entry level diploma program is required.
  • A proven record demonstrating a minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent human service practice experience required.
