Job Description Summary

Wharton External Affairs engages alumni and friends in meaningful, lifelong relationships with the School, sustaining and strengthening a culture of giving that creates positive impact among students and communities worldwide. Four distinct teams within External Affairs – Operations, Development, Alumni Relations, and Communications – work collaboratively across the School and the University to secure philanthropic commitments that empower teaching and learning, research, and dynamic programs that comprise a leading global business education. The Associate Director, Global Clubs is a member of the Alumni Relations team responsible for the management of 25+ domestic, international, and affinity alumni clubs in Latin America and the United States. The position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Global Clubs and is responsible for building and maintaining meaningful relationships with clubs and their alumni leaders while contributing to Wharton’s global strategy and representing the Wharton brand. This position not only works with the Development team, but also the International Relations team on development and engagement efforts. Responsibilities include volunteer and relationship management, developing and providing best practices for club leadership, and ensuring the club communities are adhering to Wharton’s minimum standards and policies. This position includes occasional travel both domestically and internationally. The person in this role must be knowledgeable of current events and priorities across Wharton, as they directly liaise with high-level alumni/a and board members and collaborate with the Development team on fundraising strategy. This position must also become well-versed in the School-provided website platform for alumni clubs and help foster a positive experience for club leaders using the platform. This position will work closely with the Penn Alumni Regional Clubs team and the Digital Engagement team on website platforms and inquiries from Club leaders and must also become familiar with Penn club policies and procedures and look for opportunities for collaboration. A solid understanding of institutional goals and privacy issues related to data control is also crucial to the holder of this position.


Job Responsibilities

  • Volunteer and relationship management
  • Developing and providing best practices for club leadership
  • Ensuring the club communities are adhering to Wharton’s minimum standards and policies
  • Collaborating with Development and International Relations team and other key internal stakeholders to support clubs with their goals and objectives and advance the development and engagements efforts
  • Assisting with flagship events and promoting them to club leaders
  • Serving as a team player, representing Wharton and External Affairs when visiting clubs, and assisting with achieving the overall goals of Wharton External Affairs.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned



  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred and 3 to 5 years of experience in alumni relations, volunteer management or relationship management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organization, communication, collaboration, customer service, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Experience in serving volunteer organizations and knowledge of volunteer perspective is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be detail and results-oriented, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must demonstrate the confidence and maturity to work with senior-level business alumni and Wharton faculty.
  • The position requires experience successfully managing highly confidential information and a solid understanding of the importance of
  • philanthropy to the achievement of institutional goals is preferred.
  • Must be computer proficient with an aptitude for learning new technology.
  • This position includes occasional travel both domestically and internationally. Must have a willingness to travel and work on nights and weekends.
