As the Associate Director of Nursing for Networked Care at Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Trust the post holder will support and deputise for the Director of Nursing with a budget of circa £100 million. The post holder will provide clear leadership and work with the key stakeholders to ensure the provision of high-quality patient care and the most efficient and cost-effective use of resources. The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership and drive the delivery and development of highly complex services across the Care Group. The post holder is responsible for developing and driving the Care Group strategy alongside the Director of Nursing and wider Care Group Board.The Associate Director of Nursing will provide leadership to directorate teams to develop, deliver and improve services, ensuring local and national targets are achieved through the delivery of the best quality patient care and experience within set financial controls and resources. The post holder will support the Director of Nursing in the implementation of operational objectives within the care group and involves working closely with Care Group Board, and each Directorate and Specialty triumvirate. Working closely with the Care Group PCP, the post holder will also support the development of the operational Learning and Organisational Development programme to ensure knowledge creation and skill development as well as retention and succession planning.Main duties of the jobThe key role of the Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) is to provide clinical expertise and strategic support to the Care Group Director of Nursing and teams across the Trust.The post holder will provide professional and managerial advice/expertise on all matters relating to professional nursing practice and service delivery for our patients.This post is a deputy for the Networked care group director of nursing. Their role is to support the DoN through taking a defined portfolio depending on their experience and development needs.   • The principal duties of the Associate Director of Nursing are:
  • To drive the care group programme for patient flow across the inpatient wards.
  • Work with the Care Group Directors of Nursing to ensure the implementation of patient experience initiatives across the Trust; coordinate local patient satisfaction surveys and lead the development of action plans to address any shortfalls.
  • Strategic leadership to ensure high standards of care for patients and their families evidenced through the key performance indicators of the departments.
  • Provide professional nursing leadership of the nursing teams across the Care Group ensuring appropriate structures are in place to support nurses in the delivery of care to patients and their families.
  • Provide nursing leadership on human resource issues relating to workforce planning, professional development, clinical leadership/supervision, appraisal, interviewing of senior staff and the retention and recruitment strategy for Networked Care.
  • To lead annual reviews of nursing roles and establishment so that new and expanded responsibilities are developed where appropriate and skill mix changes implemented as required.
  • Promote and maintain an evidence-based practice culture for nursing staff, ensuring representation at local, regional, and national networks, to share good practice and be responsible for wide dissemination and implementation of evidence.

  • Evidence of further academic/personal development. Current NMC registration. Postgraduate cert/ Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare or management or equivalent knowledge and skills

  • Evidence of leadership, management and speciality development. 5 years nursing experience at a senior level (clinical and/or management roles), including appropriate experience in an acute hospital setting.
