Job Description

Due to expanding workload, AECOM are recruiting for all the above roles in the UK. AECOM are offering a great opportunity to join our rapidly growing architecture team in our multi-disciplinary offices. We have Vacancies in our London, Manchester, Warrington, Glasgow and Belfast offices. AECOM are active in the following sectors: Residential, Housing, Sports, Education, Health, Rail, Defence, Nuclear, MoJ, Logistics and Data Centres.

About Our Team:

AECOM’s design team in London is a dynamic multi-disciplinary collaborative team working on sports, healthcare, workplace, interiors, masterplanning, landscape and export work for major international clients. We work closely with our engineers and specialists in-house. Export work for Middle East clients is a major part of the London office revenue and provides large scale complex schemes which will be of interest for architects who thrive in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Project/Design Responsibilities

  • Contribute, from the onset of a project to the design of innovative and progressive education design solutions that reconcile client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence.

  • To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the co-ordination and preparation of project specifications.

  • Ensuring CDM Safety in Design and Sustainability principles are applied throughout all design stages of a project.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Organises own and others work to achieve set deadlines.

  • Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief and Client requirement documents.

  • Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by their assigned team.

  • Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets AECOM’s Technical Excellence standards.

  • Applies advanced knowledge and experience to manage the day-to-day work effort.

  • Routinely interacts with multi-stakeholder clients, contractors, local authority representatives, locally and in foreign countries. The candidate will use their expertise and negotiation skills to resolve critical issues.

  • Responsible for key design input at early design phases and for general design leadership during the project.

  • Promotes teamwork within a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the practice.

  • Make appropriate value judgements with respect to corrective work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project.

  • Manage interface between Design Team / Site Team ensuring proper design support is provided in a timely manner.

  • Support Directors with operational responsibilities which includes development and implementing Technical Excellence initiatives, management of resources (HR), training initiatives (CPD).

  • Resource forecasting and management.

  • Manage and produce a range of business reporting activities.

  • Support and develop their own team through guidance, coaching, mentoring and leadership.

  • Ensures the latest software and digital techniques are utilised to increase productivity and training opportunities for staff are made available.

Commercial Responsibilities

  • Understands and implements project management principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to budget.

  • Contribute to AECOM’s leadership by representing the company at conferences and events with the aim of promoting the company’s work and philosophy both locally and internationally.

  • Assist in initial assessment of potential new projects and competitions.

  • Contribute to preparation of bids.

  • Build a network of professional relationships with existing and prospective clients.

  • Actively participate in marketing and business development.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Architecture.

  • A clear work history and portfolio of professional development and learning in the education environment, particularly tertiary education and campus masterplanning will be desirable.

  • Experience in delivering campus masterplans and/or tertiary education buildings in the middle East region will be a benefit.

  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary education team environment and/or consultancy.

  • Sustainability within the education sector and suitable education sustainability accreditation (WELL, LEED, etc) will be of benefit but not essential.

Additional Information

Minimum Requirements:

  • Fully Qualified and Registered Architect (ARB Registered)

  • Proven experience in working on major tertiary education or similar schemes.

  • Ideally you will live locally to the London office or be willing to relocate/commute.
