Mighty Earth is seeking an associate to support our campaigns to protect forests and fight the climate crisis around the world, with a focus on Asia and West Africa. As our Associate, you will work closely with our team to preserve highly biodiverse and climate critical forests and the communities that rely on them. We work to protect forests and address climate change in these regions by targeting governments and industries to adopt policies that impact global supply chains. Our campaigns are currently focused in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, and Ghana. You will mainly work with our team, consultants, and grantees across the region and in affected communities around the world.
Founded in 2016, Mighty Earth is a global advocacy organization with a goal of protecting half of Earth for Nature and securing a climate that allows life to flourish. Mighty Earth has played a leading role in driving a more than 90% decline in deforestation for palm oil and similarly dramatic declines for pulp, paper and rubber in Southeast Asia, the adoption of improved government forest and wildlife protections, and improved traceability for transition minerals and other commodities in Asia and Africa.
We achieve results by creating a “perfect storm” of campaigns, communications, and practical engagement with decision-makers. Through our campaigns, we seek to make significant progress to support impacted people around the world, including by protecting Indigenous land rights.
We have a preference for candidates based in Washington, D.C. We will also consider candidates based in the other parts of the US, EST preference. For exceptional candidates, we will also consider other parts of the Americas or Western Europe. For candidates based in the D.C. area, working in the office twice a week is expected.
No matter where you’re based, we prioritize flexibility in order to collaborate with partners across time zones in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and the Americas.
Mighty Earth is results-focused, entrepreneurial, collaborative, and nimble – and we seek candidates who are excited to work in our “obsessed with impact” culture. While remaining true to our public interest mission and commitment to movement-building, we’ve sought to apply the best of business to our organization. A resource that has informed our approach is the book No Rules Rules and the famous Netflix culture deck.
We offer a supportive and collaborative work setting with full-time working hours (and flexibility as needed for working parents and other personal demands), and a talented, driven, passionate, and fun team working alongside you.
Our interview process involves a short phone interview, two interviews, a candidate exercise, and reference calls for candidates advancing in our process. We are holding most interviews over video and will hold the finalist interview in person if possible.
